SHREVE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF BOUND BROOK/MIDDLESEX ROTARY CLUB
Somerville resident Laura Shreve was elected president of the Bound Brook/Middlesex Rotary Club to serve for one year beginning July 1, 2003. A Rotarian since 2000, she is Office Manager of the Edmar Corporation. Shreve is an active member of the community, and she is currently serving on the Board of Deacons at Bound Brook Presbyterian Church.
As the 81st president of her club, which received its charter from Rotary International in 1923, Shreve will be responsible for strengthening the group's participation in community and international service projects while attracting new membership. The club meets every Tuesday at 12:15 at Russo's Continental Catering in Bound Brook.
The installation dinner took place on Tuesday, June 24th. Shreve mentioned how proud she was to be a Rotarian, “who wouldn't be proud to be a member of an organization with the main objective of service - in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. I am particularly proud to be a member of an organization that is looking forward celebrating the global eradication of polio in 2005, Rotary International's centennial year.”
Shreve will be president of the Bound Brook/Middlesex Rotary club exactly 10 years after her stepmother Marguerite Chandler was president. Chandler was the events guest speaker. Chandler ended the evening by presenting her daughter with her Paul Harris Fellow Pin, “this pin signifies my deep respect and love for all that Rotary stands for in the world - and my passing the opportunity I so fully enjoyed in leading this club - on to you.”
Bound Brook/Middlesex Rotary is active in many projects both globally and locally. The village well, a project founded by Bound Brook Middlesex Rotary, that is currently working to provide clean wells for villages in Africa. Bridging the Gap, a business plan simulation program where high school students work in cooperation with teachers and Rotarian Consultants. The Mentoring Program in which Rotarians sign up to mentor elementary students in Bound Brook's (Please put the name of the school & a better description.) These are just a few of the clubs projects & accomplishments. Bound Brook/Middlesex Rotary also provides an annual scholarship for both Bound Brook & Middlesex High School.
